Fly at FS5 Hong Kong

If you want to fly at Hong Kong in FS5.1, first you must change the FS5 Asia scenery in "area files" and "performance boosters" to Inactive. Then install hkg001.zip to your FS5, you can fly at a quite real Hong Kong. If you want to fly at a most realize Hong Kong, I suggest you to install "Hong Kong Scenery CD".

Hong Kong Scenery CD

This is the full version of hkg001.zip which produced by FSWG. The price is about HK$180 (03/96). The Hong Kong at this version is more real, include more great buildings of Hong Kong. The most important is the Taitak Int'l Airport is done more well, and also have a fun 'Docking System' at Gate 3.

Beside, this version include the Hong Kong Shek Kong Airport, Macau Int'l Airport, Shen Zhen Huangtain Airport and GuangZhou Baiyun Airport. Also, it give you the 'Real Hong Kong ATC', which is recorded from the Communication between Kong Kong Tower and Pilots, and the 'Final Approach Shareware version'. You would never become boring to fly at Hong Kong when you have this sound! (You can now listen to the communication or ATIS to practise landing on runway 13)

This version have some more fun here, before you going in runway 13 IGS you would see a site at NDB 268. This is the construction site of Hong Kong New Int'l Airport, you will land there at about 1998! And if you fly over Hong Kong at 0000-0005, you will see the firework, it's great! (But don't fly into the firework, you will being hit! I have tried to fly a AV-8B to 'enjoy' firework using 20kts, but have hitted by a big firework... Mayday... Mayday... The AV-8B at FS5 havn't got Eject function......)

Hong Kong Int'l Airport KaiTak Approach and Departure Procedure

KaiTak airport use the runway 13 for App/Dep at most time. At real world, pilot who need to land on runway 13 must take a Simulation course first to train and test for his attitude on landing there. This is make sure the safety of flight. Although landing on runway13 at FS5 didn't need to take a course, but using big jet planes such as 767, A320 to land is not a easy job. Due to the difficulty is too high, New Pilot please don't try! :) Expert Pilot please also practise more from different planes.

Approach Procedure: (1)KaiTak Runway 13 : Fly to CH at 6000ft, then turn to 270 degrees. Tune the ADF to 268 SL, When the ADF arrow pointed to 3 o'clock (your 090 degree), turn towards SL, tune NAV 1 to IGS. After passing SL you will intercept the localizer, descend to 4000ft until intercept the glideslope. Follow the IGS and turn towards runway at the moment of intercept MM (Big Jets such as 747 and A340 must turn 2-3 seconds before MM).

The detail procedure please read Runway 13 Approach Chart (from finala)
Or using finala shareware from HK scenery CD or ftp.iup.edu .

(2)KaiTak Runway 31 : Fly to TH at 3500ft, turn to 135 degrees. Tune the NAV1 to ILS. Turn back to 315 degrees at 15nm ILS. Intercept the localizer and descend to 2000ft until intercept the glideslope.

Due to when you fly to Taiwan, Japan or Korea, you must pass through the FIR TAIPEI. You can now take a look for this FIR TAIPEI chart.

1. To Taiwan : Direct fly from Hong Kong to Taiwan is impossible, because this will fly into People Rep. of China Area. From TH, go 090 degrees for about 193nm to the point ELATO (N22 20'0",E117 30'0").

  • TaiPei : From ELATO turn to 060 degrees (through A-1). Go another 138nm and here comes to MKG (freg 114.7). Turn 047 degrees and fly more about 90 nm comes to HLG (freq 114.9). Then follow the Instrument approach Chart for landing at CKS 05L or CKS 23R.

  • KaoHsiung : From ELATO turn to 099 degrees (through G-581). When intercept TNN 191 Radial, turn left to point KUSUN (TNN 191Radial,36 DME). Then follow the Instrument approach Chart for landing at KHH 09L.

    2. To Japan : (Please look 'To Taiwan') From ELATO go 060 degrees (through A-1) to MKG (freq 114.7), then turn 045 degrees to HLG (freq 114.9). Go 054 degrees to APU (freq 112.5).

  • Japanese main islands : From APU turn to 052 degrees (through A-1), you will pass OSTAR (N26 20'12",E123 00'0"), BULAN (N27 05'30",124 00'0"). Then turn 054 degrees, pass KAPPA (N27 32'48",E124 37'06"), SAPET (N28 38'0",E126 08'0"), RUSAR¡]N29 51'42",E127 50'24"). Then go 058 degrees comes to Kagoshima VOR (freq 113.3). The distance between APU to Kagoshima(HKC) at southern Japan is about 617 nm.
